Crooks in the Sunshine – Oppenheim – First Edition 1932

Short Description

True first edition published by Hodder, London in 1932. The US edition was published the following year.

Octavo, 320 pages, very good condition with a super dust jacket, period design by Bip Pares. First ownership name on end paper, clean as a whistle inside.

Collection of then short stories based around the central character Commodore Jasen – set in the sun, sand and blue skies of the Mediterranean. Crooks abound in all descriptions.

Author Edward Phillips Oppenheim was a prolific writer despite working in his family leather trading business until in his forties. He worked in the Ministry of Information during WWI and maybe this pushed his writing towards espionage and crime of the sophisticated variety.
