Published by the Modern Library, New York 1950. Our favourite “modern”‘ edition. Octavo, 400 pages. Pretty good condition albeit with a crease to the dust jacket at the front. As with all of our jacketed book now protected in removable Brodart. Private name stamp to the half title.

A wonderfully informative introduction by Royal Gettmann, Professor of English Literature, University of Illinois. And a preface and biographical notice by Currer Bell (Charlotte Bronte). Nice chapter heading illustrations throughout.

Published by Kimber, London a first edition 1980. Very good near fine condition. Octavo, 238 pages heavily illustrated with relevant images from photographs of the period.

The Lockheed Hudson flew in five continents and was the first US aircraft into the RAF. Deadly against U-boats taking out a total of 24. Often flown on special missions dropping agents or picking up patriots from the jaws of the enemy. Guarded the beaches of Dunkirk.

Published by Simon and Shuster in 1979 same year as the first UK edition and one year after the German. Octavo, 224 pages well illustrated and in very good condition.

The US equivalent of “Everest Impossible Victory”. Hillary got there first but it was Habeler and Messner who first made it to the highest place on earth unassisted with oxygen tanks, in 1978. Unusual interesting account starting with the preparations and the finances. Habeler only took three pairs of long socks!

…. don’t hold your breath too long!
